Sleepy Hollow State Park

Sleepy Hollow State Park is in Laingsburg, MI and offers riders an opportunity to ride on an island and rent cabins. The equestrian staging area amenities are a pavilion, one hand pump, two privies, picnic tables, 60+ picket poles, mounting blocks, updated kiosk, manure pit and a large sandy rolling pit. Overnight camping is not allowed without a special permit which Sleepy Hollow Trail Riders Association does provide for their annual events. The two rental cabins, one modern and one rustic, that allow horses are available via the reservation system and both overlook the lake. They offer outside picnic areas, water hydrant, 4 equine picket poles, manure bunker and two 12×12 corrals. Trailer parking is nearby. Reservation information is located on the equestrian reservation tab on the DNR website.

Clearly marked 15 miles of trimmed equestrian trails are available here for trail riders, with some multi-use sections which include bicycles. All trails are easy riding though grassland, pine stands and hard wood forest. With four ways to ride out or return to the staging area, the mileage depends on directional choices. The glacial outwash soils can be soft and slippery when wet. East and West loops may be ridden separately or as one large loop. The West loop connects back to camp or onto the South loop which is an old roadbed, cart accessible, partly multi-user and travels along Lake Ovid. An arched 100 ft bridge leads to the lovely multi-use Island Trail. There are mounting blocks, hitching rails and picnic table at the bridge and on the island. No horses are permitted in the lake or creek. A seasonal porta john is located near the letter O/Site F. Two rental cabins are available via the reservation system that allow equine camping and overlook the lake. Both have outside picnic areas, water hydrant, 4 equine picket poles, manure bunker and two covered 10×10 corrals. Trailer parking is nearby.

Thank you to Sleepy Hollow Trail Riders Association for their continued support of these trails. Join them throughout the season for their events.
