Yankee Springs Recreation Area

Located near beautiful Gun Lake, the equestrian campground at Yankee Springs Recreation Area is just 35 minutes south of Grand Rapids. Horseman’s Camp features a group fire circle, a nearby picnic shelter, vault toilets, a manure pit and a centrally located hand pump. In addition, picket poles, a picnic table and fire ring can be found at each campsite, and about half of the campsites now have corrals for your horses. See the campground page for updated information on which sites have corrals. There is a newly constructed day staging area that makes for easy parking, has vault toilets, mounting blocks, hitching rails There are roughly 10 miles of trails, a 6 mile loop and a 4 mile loop, that wind through large growth forests, alongside lakes and pass by creeks providing riders with a varied and challenging equestrian experience. These trails connect to an additional 9 miles of trails that can be found in the neighboring Barry State Game Area (available to equestrian riders in the summer months) lending itself to rides of varying distances. If you like changing, challenging terrain, hills, sand and fun, then Yankee is a great place to ride. You get an up north feel in southern MI with the sand and pine trees, but with the hills more often found in Southern MI. This is a family friendly campground and a great place to ride. Thank you so much to the Yankee Springs Trail Riders Association for the continued improvements and maintenance they bring to this beloved area.
